Newbie getting lost in comments

[identity profile] clay-marble.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi.

This is my first time really following a group like this. Is there a way to know if a particular thread has been updated in order to follow a fill? It doesn't seem like you can check that just be looking at the last post on the WIP page and I was wondering.

Thank you for your wonderful group, by the way. =)

If you have a paid account, you can track comment threads and get an email every time an author adds to their WIP or track a prompt and be notified when someone fills it.

Unfortunately, this option is not available for basic accounts. As an alternative, you can save up links to WIPs you want to keep track of in a google doc (or something similar) and check back on them when you want. As inconvenient as that can be, there really doesn't seem to be another option available at this point.

I hope this was helpful. Please comment again if you have further questions!

There's a twitter that tracks XMFC WIPs: firstclasswips (http://twitter.com/#!/firstclasswips).

Mods, maybe a link on the profile page could be useful?

Thanks for the suggestion! I wasn't aware this exised!

We asked for volunteers to start a WIP-tracking twitter a while back and no one offered. We've also not been contacted by the people/person running the account and I personally haven't seen a comment about tracking on the meme. But know that we'll look into it!

Hey mods. Is there a reason only one person's comments were deleted?

http://xmen-firstkink.livejournal.com/5215.html?thread=6137183#t6137183

And maybe you guys can keep an eye out for these snarky kind of comments? What is the purpose of taking over a pretty obvious anti-Shaw prompt with pro-Shaw commentary? And yes, in this case, I think that includes romanaorfred's comment.

[identity profile] firstkinkmod.livejournal.com 2011-10-16 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw the thread in its entirety. The first user deleted their comments moments before I went to delete them, I deleted the anon comments, and the second user deleted their own comment while I was debating whether or not to delete the remaining logged-in comment.

I don't specifically recall the text of the comments, but I don't believe the users were being particularly "pro-Shaw," just off-topic. Prompt hijacking seems to be rather rare in this comm and we always try to control it if it shows signs of becoming unfriendly. If you'd like to discuss this further, we have an off-topic discussion post (http://xmen-firstkink.livejournal.com/3480.html), but please keep it civil.

It's also my opinion that calling out users by name is not exactly in spirit with the community we are trying to build here, especially in a public forum like the ask-a-mod post. Please refrain from doing so in the future, or if you feel names are necessary, send a PM to one of the mods. Thank you.

Deletion needed

Hey Mods, I forgot a fairly important word and possibly a warning for this prompt: http://xmen-firstkink.livejournal.com/5215.html?thread=6157151#t6157151

Could you please delete this so I could repost it properly?

Done!

Hi!

I've forgotten the subject line in this prompt:
http://xmen-firstkink.livejournal.com/5215.html?thread=6383455#t6383455

Could you delete it, please? I've already posted it (with subject again).

Thanks :)

Done. Thanks for reposting!

Thanks for the quick deletion. :)

By the way, I love the meme. <3

I just posted a fill here:
http://xmen-firstkink.livejournal.com/5215.html?thread=6475103#t6475103
and one anon pointed out that I might have missed a warning. Should I delete it and post it again (only it already got comments on it) or is it ok to leave as it is?

I don't want to trigger anyone so if need be I'll delete it.

Warnings

[identity profile] ascoolsuchasi.livejournal.com 2011-10-21 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
If you have a link for, say, a video in a prompt, do you want us to have warnings on the subject line for it?

Re: Warnings

[identity profile] firstkinkmod.livejournal.com 2011-10-21 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
So let's say your prompt doesn't contain [trigger] but your video link does -- I'd have you warn for the link, but it wouldn't have to be in the subject line since it's not an integral part of the prompt. Say:

"Video for inspiration (warnings for [trigger]): http://youtube.com/etc"

If the prompt does incorporate that element, then you'd still warn for it in the subject line. Hope that clears things up, thanks for checking!

Taking dow prompts

[identity profile] 03-07-1992.livejournal.com 2011-10-22 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Dear Mod,

it would appear that two of my prompts have caused a fellow member to become very offended and I wish to take them down.

They are:

http://xmen-firstkink.livejournal.com/5215.html?thread=6514783#t6514783

and

http://xmen-firstkink.livejournal.com/5215.html?thread=6459487#t6459487

(I also posted this on the disccusion post, wasn't sure which to put)

I filled a post and you asked me to repost with the TW in the subject line.

Here's the link to the thread with the fill reposted.

Sorry again.

Please delete - forgot pedophilia warning

Mods- can you pls review prompt and advise if I missed other warnings? I shall repost when corrected.

Actually I shall not repost given the "troll" accusations. Jeez, my first post to a kink comm and I'm told I have no taste. Oh well, I'll just continue to be a lurker then.

The thread has been taken down.

Hi Mods,

I notice that we're getting closer and closer to the 10k comments cut-off mark on Round Three (where I'm posting my fic) - are we going to have an overspill post to continue in when we hit that mark? Or if not, where should we continue works-in-progress? I just want to make sure I'm aware in time to link to any continuation before we run out of comments :)

Thank you!

[identity profile] firstclass-anon.livejournal.com 2011-12-18 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, there will be an overspill post and thanks for the reminder! We haven't discussed the cut-off in comments yet so I'll poke the other mods first, though I think the overspill post should be up pretty soon here.
