Let's say in an alternate world, everyone survived on that beach -- but Shaw still wants revenge, and he finds that the best way to do so is by kidnapping one of the kids and holding the hostage, because losing a child is difficult, but watching them suffer and being tortured? It's excruciatingly painful.

Taking Sean (or Alex -- I don't particularly mind but I do prefer Sean!whumpage but either or is fine), he asks that Charles and Erik do him a few favors and in return, he'd hand him back. The two aren't up for Shaw's games, but feel as if they have no choice. Going on a mission and trying to beat time, they do whatever it takes to hunt down Shaw and get Sean/Alex back.

When they do get him back, he's entirely traumatized from the experience and flinches at the slightest touches, doesn't feel the need to eat, etc.

The other kids -- especially the other (Sean for Alex or Alex for Sean) -- as well as the two mutant parents try to help him realize that he was back home and he was safe at last. Angst! Hurt/comfort! Family stuff.
