FILL: Everyday Love in Stockholm 131/?

[identity profile] tahariel.livejournal.com 2012-01-25 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
It’s like tasting Charles’ heart beating, his thighs clenching tight around Erik’s shoulders, and his own cock is dripping onto the covers, hard and begging for a touch he doesn’t want just yet. He reaches up to tangle his hand with Charles’, and their fingers catch and lock together as the human cries out aloud, unable to hold it in; Erik’s tongue strokes the long line of the vein along the underside, traces the join where Charles’ foreskin meets the rest of him, and ignores it when Charles tries to pull him away, sucks harder through the sudden flood as Charles comes, shaking and panting - “Erik! Oh, oh - ” - and keeps licking at the dribbling aftershocks until Charles really is too sensitive and pulls him away more forcefully, up to his mouth for a kiss.

“Erik,” and his mouth must taste bitterly of Charles’ come, but the kiss is no less fervent for it, sloppy and wet as the other man regains a little of the control stripped from him by his orgasm. “What do you want?” Charles asks, between kisses, his breath still unsteady, and when Erik guides his hand to his own cock where it’s desperate for attention Charles is happy to oblige, the first stroke shocking an embarrassingly loud moan from Erik that only gets louder when Charles pushes him over onto his back and shuffles backward on the bed to return the favour.

XXV

Charles sticks their share of the photographs they took to the refrigerator door, which is apparently the traditional spot; it makes getting the milk out in the morning a longer affair, because Erik always pauses to trace a finger over the laughter on Charles’ face, the smugness on Raven’s. His favourite photo is the one where Raven has pretended to swoon across their laps and Charles is grinning into Erik’s neck, face half-hidden but luminous nonetheless.

I know I always comment with things like "OH MY HEART" but jesus, it's always true! The little scenes with Erik always just hurt. Wondering if he's wanted on the couch -- even though these are the two people he loves most in the world, he's not sure if he can even sit on a couch with them and be wanted. He's honestly that insecure. And then when he shows Charles the picture of his old house -- and the extra punch was, it wasn't even his house when he took the picture. Someone else was living there. I can just imagine him making the trip for that specific purpose, just to see the only place he can ever remember being happy and he can't even go inside. That's kind of the story of his life, though? He's always on the outside looking in. He never told Raven about his feelings, and lost her before he even had a chance. And he'll never be sure of Charles' love because he has him locked up. Nothing in his life is certain and he never knows how to act and just...this turned into a giant blob of Erik feelings but good lord you write him so well.

The photograph of Erik's house is from Part Three subsection XII (which was quite a while ago now), that I'd always intended to bring back this way, so I'm really pleased it worked for you on so many levels. It's pretty heartbreaking, I think, for that to be the only thing you have left of your family, and that not connected to them at all, on any real level. For him to show it to Charles is a really big step for Erik, and it shows in the way they come together after that - there's a new level of intimacy there.

The more comfortable he gets with Charles the better he'll be about personal space and knowing when he is and isn't wanted, but I think the main thing for Erik here is that while he is starting to get an idea about Charles, and knows Raven, he doesn't yet know where he fits into Charles-and-Raven. It's territory he has yet to discover.

I'm really pleased it all worked for you, anyway, and thanks for sticking with me :)

Oh man, I can just tell that the fall is going to kill me here. When it comes--when Raven is dead and Charles is alone--I'm going to weep.

But, there's so much here that I want to cling to. I love how they've given into each other, more fully. There's an odd sense of peace here--something I know won't last long--but it's gorgeous nonetheless. Opening up to each other, sharing bits of their respective pasts--it's progress. Hard earned, but worth it.

I really wanted, here, to start opening up that emotional intimacy between them that they've been dancing around up until now, and to show that they can be together in a real way. I'm glad that worked for you, bb!

Love. Absolute love. That's what I feel after reading this update.

This was a much needed and perfectly placed interlude of sorts. Away from the politics and current events unfolding outside of the apartment, this is very much a quiet exhalation. What you accomplish in this part is bringing everything down to it's most honest state -- mutant or human, in the end they want the same things -- to connect, to belong, to love, to feel love, whether it be romantic or platonic it is basic, simple, genuine truth. And you absolutely capture it here.

I love seeing Raven and Charles so close as siblings and Erik's initial uncertainty about his own place in the mix eventually giving way to his very natural place at their side. Raven and Charles talking about their past not only opens Erik's eyes to what they, and in particular Charles, has survived (vague as it is -- I love the flash of severity Charles shows that catches Erik off guard...like there's this very strong minded fighter deep within who has always been there) but it opens the door to Erik opening himself up right back, at least to Charles. That's a huge step in, once again, putting them on equal footing.

Not only do these old pictures tell the story of who they were at one time, but the newest ones allow them to capture some (fleeting?) moments of happiness in the here and now, before it all goes to hell, a reminder, a remembrance for down the road that for a moment they (all of them and Erik/Charles specifically) tasted happiness together. It's incredibly touching.

And of course the hotness of Charles and Erik in bed, but this time it's slow and reverent, as if each touch and taste is to be committed to memory.

Lovely update!

As ever, what a lovely comment - thank you, bb! I sort of want to elaborate on your points but you've put everything so well and so succinctly that sometimes I wonder if you've been hiding in my brain watching me write, because you're always so spot on. Are you secretly me from another dimension?

Simply lovely. Not to mention heartbreaking in how domestic and happy they all seem, but then I remember the dark cloud hanging over their heads, especially Charles', and it all becomes bitter-sweet. I love this fic!

Your Erik is KILLING me with how fucked up and lonely he is, and how this life he's creating with Raven and Charles isn't truly real since he has to keep Charles hidden up in the attic, yet it's the closest to "normal" he's got.

When Raven is gone, it'll be like Charles ceases to exist for himself since there's no one there to know who his was before he was locked up.

For fucks sake, this is heartbreakingly beautiful.

Thank you! I'm really glad you liked it. I think we really needed this interlude, here, to show how they can be and how they could have been, as well as opening them up a bit further to one another. I hope it keeps working for you as we keep going :)

Ahhhhh why do I feel like everything has to go horribly wrong soon. D:

What a tender update this was! From Erik's sort of panicked desire to share his own pain, thinking it was selfish of him; the reminder that this world is different because Raven had to protect Charles; all the reminiscing and the quiet, slow sex and these two lines:

...each near-catch of his fingernails like the way Erik imagines it would feel to try and harness lightning...

It’s like tasting Charles’ heart beating...

Thanks - it means a lot that you like it, so I'm really pleased and happy right now :) I really wanted here to have a more intimate interlude of opening up, but there was never going to be a way to do that that wasn't more like reopening old wounds for Erik. He has to do it to let the poison out, but it means Charles gets to see in, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, so long as he's not squeamish.

First, I need to thank you for spoiling me, because it makes reading this, not easier, but like I have a better handle on it. You know? It no longer feels like I'm driving in the pitch dark with a steep cliff somewhere up ahead that I just know I'll eventually drive off. It even made pregnant Raven easier to bear (though that did trigger me a bit, though not as bad as before--and wtf is wrong with me that pregnant women trigger me I do not know). What I really liked in this update was your Erik consistency. I like how you showed us this human side (through memories of his parents, the photographs) but then immediately reminded us that he was Magneto (by having him express outrage--however subtextually--at there being no pictures of Raven in her true form). You can see how Charles would fall for the human Erik but by leery of the mutant Magneto. It sort of almost makes Charles' Stockholm syndrome less distressing (though their sexual relationship still makes me cringe). You also did a very good job making Erik sympathetic in this chapter, despite how deplorable his actions are. That last scene was pretty heart breaking.

And omg, I wrote a review that didn't involve triggered Neko freaking out! (I actually read the chapter this morning, freaked out, and then came back to do the review with a level head, which I think will be my routine from now on, that way you don't have to deal with my insanity, only my insight. That work?)

I'm glad it helped - I want you to be able to enjoy reading it, even if you still find some bits hard. And there's nothing wrong with you for being triggered. God knows we all have things which upset us. For instance, there is no way I'm going to see George Clooney in The Descendants, even though I have this sort of morbid fascination with going to see it, because my Mum died suddenly and left my Dad with two teenage daughters, and I can already tell that's going to be like shooting me after stuffing me in a barrel. So :)

I'm really pleased you liked it, anyway, and thank you so much - your feedback means a lot :) I hope you continue to enjoy it (pending all the things that make you upset with Erik, of course!)

I've been following this fic for like a month now and I was always too shy to comment, but this chapter was just so wonderful and amazing and jfkdla. SO MANY... FEELINGS.... ;___; This is honestly one of the best fics in this fandom and you write Erik so well, imo.
