Love. Absolute love. That's what I feel after reading this update.

This was a much needed and perfectly placed interlude of sorts. Away from the politics and current events unfolding outside of the apartment, this is very much a quiet exhalation. What you accomplish in this part is bringing everything down to it's most honest state -- mutant or human, in the end they want the same things -- to connect, to belong, to love, to feel love, whether it be romantic or platonic it is basic, simple, genuine truth. And you absolutely capture it here.

I love seeing Raven and Charles so close as siblings and Erik's initial uncertainty about his own place in the mix eventually giving way to his very natural place at their side. Raven and Charles talking about their past not only opens Erik's eyes to what they, and in particular Charles, has survived (vague as it is -- I love the flash of severity Charles shows that catches Erik off guard...like there's this very strong minded fighter deep within who has always been there) but it opens the door to Erik opening himself up right back, at least to Charles. That's a huge step in, once again, putting them on equal footing.

Not only do these old pictures tell the story of who they were at one time, but the newest ones allow them to capture some (fleeting?) moments of happiness in the here and now, before it all goes to hell, a reminder, a remembrance for down the road that for a moment they (all of them and Erik/Charles specifically) tasted happiness together. It's incredibly touching.

And of course the hotness of Charles and Erik in bed, but this time it's slow and reverent, as if each touch and taste is to be committed to memory.

Lovely update!

As ever, what a lovely comment - thank you, bb! I sort of want to elaborate on your points but you've put everything so well and so succinctly that sometimes I wonder if you've been hiding in my brain watching me write, because you're always so spot on. Are you secretly me from another dimension?

The cat's out of the bag, so-to-speak. I'm not you from another dimension but I suspect we've had this conversation (or one very similar to it) in a parallel universe. It's all just coming together now :-)
