I need to have a moment with my evil iTunes (see icon!) to say that Sia's "I'm in Here" was playing during the sex scene and I just wanted to weep sadly at how much that song typifies so much of what I think exists between these versions of Charles and Erik. Seeing that sex come after that argument is both the wrong balm to their fight and the exact right one for their emotional connection. (Does that make sense?)

I'm so with Neko on Charles showing his backbone with the thought of Raven's baby not being a mutant and what that would mean in the end, because it's something that should be considered.

Now I'll just quietly weep at this update, as yet again you've taken just a bit of my heart with you.

That's an interesting way to put it, but I totally agree - it's the wrong next step for them to ignore their fight, but at the same time they had to have that fight to open up to one another and get close enough to take the next step physically, too. (I also like using sex, and sexual progression, as a metaphor for emotional closeness.)

I would argue, however, that Charles has been fighting Erik when he thought it mattered all along - it's just that Erik always bails on their arguments before Charles can win! He wasn't too squeamish to kick Erik in the injured leg in the middle of an argument, for example, in Part Three. He's just the quiet sort of fighter :)

That metaphor is a great one--as much as it hurt for them to have that fight, it was also just as heartbreaking to see them go from there to sex. It's a sign that there is trust there, even if they are on very different sides of any issue.

I can see that Charles does stand up for him self, but I think this was the first time it took a position that make Erik fight back to press the point. They are always fighting and Erik just deflates at a point, but he couldn't do that here and I like that finally happened if only to see Erik that there is more to Charles than just the man he loves and the one who's the pie-in-the-sky academic.
