Re: FILL: Everyday Love in Stockholm - Author's Note
(Anonymous) 2012-03-25 09:13 am (UTC)(link)Secondly, I didn't realise until the opportunity was taken from him, just how much I wanted Erik to be able to give Charles his freedom. Much like seeing Charles so composed after Erik let him top, it was a blow. What happened was right, of course - that Erik be forced to face what he has done, amongst other things, was absolutely what had to happen.
I finished reading this just after you posted last night, but couldn't comment because of how deeply it affected me. I'll re-read the whole thing on AO3 eventually, but I will have to take some space from it. I'm sure that you, as the author, must feel a little like that, having been immersed in it for so long. An amazing achievement, and a wonderful contribution to the fandom. Thank you for it.
Re: FILL: Everyday Love in Stockholm - Author's Note
I agree, it absolutely had to be taken away from Erik at the last moment, because it would be too easy for him just to change his mind again about letting Charles go and not really have the impetus to do anything about it. He needed the ultimate push. But it still had to be his choice, something he decided for himself, or else it would undermine all of his changes and choices up until that point, if he didn't make the decision for himself. It was a tough tight-rope to walk, so I'm really glad it worked for you!
I'm still a bit too close to it, really - I feel like a friend of mine died, I'm not quite sure what to do with myself without Erik in my head. But getting such a lovely comment helps soothe my aching soul :D
