Have had this idea for ages but jumping on an above theme as it reminded me of it.
Once upon a time, Charles made a joke that if both him and Erik were not with someone by the time they were 40 they'd marry one another. He never actually thought this would happen because 1) marriage between two men was not allowed and 2) it was a JOKE.
Much to his shock on his 40 Birthday there is a knock at the door. Erik has decided to take the joke very seriously. After all, Erik has made sure that same sex marriage is legal in Genosha and Charles did promise even though he never dreamed it would happen.
Soon, the two are being sweep towards the event of marriage. The world is shocked, Charles' students are shocked and hell, Charles is shocked.
Bonus: Erik knows Charles didn't mean it. Problem is he's been in love with Charles was years with no hope of those feelings coming to an end. In fact, when Charles made his little joke back in the day it damn hurt. Now, he is determined to finally get what he wants and to make this work.
Lots of romance and a happy ending please. Angst very okay too.
