I imagine that if Charles had been a woman , things would have been very different, being a female genius telepath in the 50's and 60's. Her relationship with Raven would be stronger, I think, because they would undestand each other better, and her relationship with Cain might be more violent.
I really want to see independent and brilliant ypung Charlotte blowing away everyone at Oxford with her genius and charming confidence,but probably not getting the job as a professor. She does however get fanmail form an admiring young Hank before he begins working for the CIA. They became friends and unite with Raven to help young mutants, creating the school and Cerebro much earlier. Maybe they travel the world , developing their powers and meeting mutants like Logan and little Wanda and Pietro.
Cue the First Class movie, with a confused Moira, BAMF Charlotte, obvious Hank, confident Rqven , matchmaking Wanda and Pietro and , of course , a very confused Erik who refuses to admit he's in love with this strong,optimistic teacher who adopted his kids.

Round 12, Charles / Erik

Charles is taken by an organisation (human or mutant), preferably instead of or after the beach scene in Cuba. Erik still leaves with Raven while Charles is incapacitated, however.

The organisation tortures and/or experiments on Charles (who could even initially start out as a willing subject). One of the things they want to see is how good a substitute his telepathy would be for conversation. So they remove or deliberately damage his vocal chords. Permanently.

Eventually Charles escapes or is rescued.

This could be set during DoFP, where instead of Erik being in jail, he, Logan, Hank and Pietro bust Charles out of this place. Or maybe it goes similarly to the film except Charles is mute and has full control of his powers. I would really love for everyone to be super angry on Charles's behalf. And for some Cherik, however you want to work that in. And also Raven's reaction.

tldr, A corrupt organisation removes or damages Charles's vocal chords. Charles will never be able to speak again, except telepathically. Angst prevails.

Bonus for Charles's angst and fear over actually using his telepathy to communicate, as so many people he loves/respects have requested and even demanded that he didn't read their minds in the past. He tries to compromise by allowing them to speak and then projecting, maybe along with some sign language, but it's tough, and kind of isolating.
